IEC WORKING GROUP ON A TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR “CONDUCTORS FOR OVERHEAD LINES – FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE CORE USED AS SUPPORTING MEMBER MATERIAL”.

IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) TC7 face to face meetings took place recently in Paris.

Epsilon Cable is proud to participate actively with others manufacturers and utilities to the 62818 working group to create a new technical specification for “conductors for overhead lines – Fiber reinforced composite core used as supporting member material”.

IEC standards are critical to help provide quality products for utilities.

Composite cores for bare overhead conductors have been in use for more than 20 years and deserve such an IEC document to facilitate a more widespread adoption. We look forward to its release!

HVCRC® Technical Days in Colombia

With 3 events in 3 cities across Colombia, more than 40 participants from 15 companies in the transmission & distribution industry attended those technical days

We presented the HVCRC® technology and several case studies, before discussing more in details about the technical characteristics, accessories, installation methods and sustainability aspects.

We thank our local stranding partner Centelsa (now part of Nexans group) and all participants!

CORECHECK® FIELD TESTS: A MAJOR MILESTONE FOR OUR CORE MONITORING TECHNOLOGY

Epsilon technical team demonstrated our patented composite core monitoring technology, Corecheck®, during an advanced conductor installation performed by Electromontaj teams.

The field tests were conducted in Romania on a 400kV transmission line under construction, which will soon be operated by Romanian TSO Transelectrica.

The tests were successful and participants witnessed the capabilities and ease of use and of the Corecheck® technology, which relies on breakdown voltage to assess the integrity of the composite core at key stages of the installation.

LIVE DEMONSTRATION OF OUR COMPOSITE CORE MONITORING TECHNOLOGIES

We were happy to host a live demonstration of our composite core monitoring technologies for several leading European TSOs (TennetElia and 50Hz) along with our stranding partner Nexans.

Such technologies are used to assess the integrity of ECRC® composite cores at any stage of the conductor life.

Our visitors were able to see the interesting benefits it offers for transmission lines modernization, in support of the energy transition.

We also would like to thank Tesmec who provided the pulling equipment for this event, and the rest of our partners involved in the project.

Nexans & Epsilon Composite Cable strengthen their partnership in Europe

Nexans and Epsilon Composite Cable strengthen their partnership through major high voltage overhead line projects in Europe, supplying advanced conductors with a composite core for lines up to 400kV.

10 years after our first project together for a RTE pilot line in France, and following many successful HVCRC projects in South-East Asia in the past few years, Nexans and Epsilon have recently been awarded several HTLS projects much closer to our European manufacturing base, in countries such as Spain, Germany, and Montenegro.

Those projects all have the same goal: improve grid flexibility & support the fast increase in renewable energy generation!

Tesmec Stringing open house

Thank you very much to Tesmec team for inviting us to Italy for this event and giving us the opportunity to present the benefits and challenges of carbon cores in HTLS overhead conductors.

It was a nice sight to see our HVCRC 530-71 (Dublin size) conductor stranded by Nexans mounted on Tesmec machines for the stringing demos.

We’ve realized that Tesmec Group and Epsilon Composite have so many things in common, as we both are family owned medium size companies with a strong innovation philosophy and a global reach with >80% export targeting high performance products.

Looking forward to reinforce even more our collaboration in the future!

HIGH VOLTAGE COMPOSITE REINFORCED CONDUCTORS: EPSILON COMPOSITE WINS PATENT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUIT AGAINST CTC GLOBAL

Epsilon Composite is pleased to announce it won the lawsuit initiated in 2018 by CTC Global regarding an alleged infringement of ACCC® patent (ref EP1506085).

CTC Global complaint was dismissed in court, and CTC Global was sentenced by the judge to pay a fair compensation to Epsilon Composite.

On Epsilon Composite’s request, the European Patent Office revoked CTC Global’s patent EP1506085. The decision to revoke this patent was confirmed in appeal and is now final. It applies to all European countries the patent was covering. This decision excludes once and for all any patent infringement allegation from CTC Global against Epsilon Composite in Europe.

This decision will support a fair business environment and a healthy competition driving innovation and continuous improvement of power grids.

It comforts Epsilon Composite in its position as one of the leading innovative company in the composite industry, with a strong track record in the energy sector.

With over 100 patents worldwide and more than 10% of its turnover invested in R&D every year, Epsilon Composite is continuously innovating to solve utilities infrastructure challenges over the world.

Thousands of miles of advanced conductors made with Epsilon cores have been sucessfully installed and energized worldwide since 2008, and the trend has been accelerating in recent years due to the increasing demand to improve Transmission & Distribution grids.

We’d like to thank our staff and partners who contributed to the worldwide success of our advanced conductors, and we pledge to continue our work to improve powergrids worldwide.
